About TV 8

The nation’s first educational television station, TV 8 is public television for Houston, featuring quality programs about culture, arts, science, news, national/world affairs, and outstanding children’s programming. Support comes primarily through the generous contributions of listeners with additional money from grants, special events and the local business community. KUHT TV 8 is licensed to the University of Houston System governed by the UH Board of Regents. The Houston Public Media Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 support organization which serves to secure the financial future of Houston Public Broadcasting and to cultivate and engage community resources to support its mission.

Broadcast Channel 8.1 KUHT HD is our primary channel featuring all your favorite PBS programs in High Definition, including children’s programming six days a week. PBS member stations are America’s largest classroom, the nation's largest stage for the arts and a trusted window to the world.

Broadcast Channel 8.2 KUHT2 carries the PBS CREATE channel, featuring the best in How-To programs, Cooking, Crafting, Gardening, Travel and more!

Broadcast Channel 8.3 is broadcasting children’s programming from PBS Kids. PBS KIDS is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children through curriculum-based entertainment. PBS KIDS leverages the full spectrum of media and technology to build knowledge, critical thinking, imagination and curiosity.

Broadcast Channel 8.4 is broadcasting the NHK World Japan, the international service of Japan's public media organization. It provides primarily English language programming with the latest information on Japan and Asia through television, radio and online to a global audience. Hourly updates from NHK Newsline, entertainment, educational and on-demand programming are available 24 hours a day.

Broadcast Channel 8.5 is broadcasting Sight Into Sound (formerly Taping for the Blind). Sight into Sound is an independent non-profit organization with a mission to Turn Sight into Sound, enriching the lives of individuals with visual, physical and learning disabilities. Broadcast Channel 8.6 will broadcast the PBS WORLD channel. Devoted to telling stories that humanize complex issues, WORLD shares the best of public media in news, documentaries, and fact-based informational programming that helps us understand conflicts, movements and cultures that may be distinct from your own.
